Stirling Castle
Kings Knot
Links/Research:
Beneath the castle and the Queen's Hole, an area for the ladies to sit out and enjoy the view, is the "King's Knot", which was a grand formal garden. Only the outline of the King's Knot and an adjoining parterre (an area of flower beds and pathways) remain. In the afternoon and evening the area would enjoy the sunshine.
here are two gardens within the castle, the southern one including a bowling green. Below the castle's west wall is the King's Knot, a 16th-century formal garden, now only visible as earthworks, but once including hedges and knot-patterned parterres.[32] The gardens were built on the site of a medieval jousting arena known as the Round Table, in imitation of the legendary court of King Arthur.[67]
The King's Knot, the great formal garden behind the south façade of the Palace, is thought to date to the time of Mary's grandson, Charles I, but her father, James V, employed a French gardener at Stirling in the 1530s and thus the establishment of a garden here may date to these years
The gardens of Stirling Castle were redesigned in 1627. It was at this time that the King's Knot was also constructed, as part of grand formal gardens, in the valley below the Castle. The Castle itself was refurbished a decade earlier.
The King's Knot is now just a grassed-over octagonal stepped mound, the pattern still clearly visible. The gardens once had a pleasure canal. Clear view of the King's Knot, and further as far as Ben Lomond, can be enjoyed from the battlements.

Angies Class- We were doing a personal portrait in the style of Andy Warhol. In which you had to add something that was personal to you like lyrics, you're favorite things ect. Then we started using clay to make letters capital and lower case. Where we learned how to make the letters proper by making it smooth ect.
Brian's Class- We are making a magazine, learning how to use Scribus and how to structure a page in a magazine. The class voted for a magazine name which is M. We also discussed what we are going to put in to the magazine. Then going to make our pages together. We get the choice of a single page article or a double page article.

Garage Band/iMovie/iPhoto
Garage Band- We used garage band for our podcast about ourselves earlier on in the course and we used it for most of the sound production on every project we did. We used Garage Band in the last project to get an original soundtrack often enough we used it for sounds of whistles, crowds ect. We also can used it for our own style of music video with Rob where we took a song we liked and used pictures from the internet to describe what the lyrics mean and say. We can also use garage band to record sound through it also.
iMovie- We used iMovie for uploading our flip book video where we made a flip book and uploaded it picture by picture. We also used it for our video when we had to do a chase scene. We watched it scene by scene we also did like different angles and we arranged every scene and went with what scene went well and helped it flow better. We also used iMovie to upload our music video to Quicktime. Last time we used iMovie was to upload our animation and we arranged it scene by scene and made sure everything fitted.
iPhoto- We used iPhoto to upload our screen shots of different types of sites when we were comparing sites and showing what we did on a project ect. We also used iPhoto for when we scanned our pictures for our flip book and put them in iPhoto to upload them to iMovie.

Updates :)
Tuesday- We started learning about how a magazine page is constructed. We traced a magazine spread and outlined where the pictures and text were on the page. We were shown the basic outline of a magazine and on how different magazines can construct there front page and how some magazines can hide there logo unlike other magazines that aren't so well known have to always show there title page.
Thursday- We finished off our projects. By editing up the films and watching them through. They are going to do the voice overs and made sure we got scene by scene correct and that it had a solid flow to it and that it made sense.
Monday 1/2/10- We learned about Andy Warhol and what kind of art work he did. We are going to do a self portrait in the style of Andy Warhol art work. We had to find four pictures of his work and write a paragraph on why we liked and explained it in depth. Then the lecturer took pictures of us and then traced it with a pen and then projected it on to a big piece of card and drew it out on the card and then went over it in black pen.

Animation Essay
200 Words at least.
Over the many years animation has grown with technology and it has gotten better and better. Basic animations started off in the 1670's with the Magic lantern. Magiae Naturalis was the first animation that was published in the english language which was published by John Baptista Porta. In the 1800's more and more new types of animation came around with Thaumatrope, Zoetrope and Praxinoscope. Thaumatrop came around in 1824 and just ten years later and then Zoetrop came out in 1834 and then in 1869 which saw the arrival of the flipbook. It took the world by storm and is still around and still is very popular today. More with younger kids since there usually free in boxes of cereal. As technology advanced more and more new types of animation came around with animation being completely computer animated with the likes of toy story, over the hedge, shrek ect. But before then there was stop motion which is basicly taking pictures and moving models to make a film such tv shows and films use it like Wallace and gromit, Chicken Run, South Park and most recently Fantastic Mr Fox.
